How to get your freelance writing "jeans" to fit

It's all well and good to tell you to work through the discomfort of your new title, Professional Writer. As Loral Langemeier says, "Interesting, but not particularly helpful."

So, let's go the helpful route and look at some ways you can work on this.

The obvious first step is... actually writing! For money. Attack this goal like you mean it. If you're working on the freelance job boards, commit to placing a certain number of bids every day until (and then even after!) you get a gig. And then actually do it.

If you're going the cold call route (see PB's books and explanation), commit to making a certain number of calls every day until (and then even after!) you get a gig. And then do it.

The rules: no whining, no quitting, no procrastinating.

It's amazing how much more "writer-y" you'll feel once you've actually been paid for your words!

It's true! 5+ bids a day--do or die. I'm still working up the stuff for the cold calling part through...
